Chapter 1
…
…
When Rose Stewart was printing the land contract she had easily won,A Coincidental Marriage her cell phone rang. She quickly rushed to her desk and looked at the bold word “Darling” on the caller ID, and her heart missed a beat.
She hadn't received a call from him in three years. She could feel it was a rarity as her heart drummed against her chest.
When she saw the name, she took a deep breath and answered with a shallow voice: “hello”, and paused.
The reason was that she could not guess why Ivan Smith would call her number. He had never done it before, and she would not expect that he might.
“I’m back.” The phone caller replied with the gentle laughter of a woman.
The sudden female voice made the blood on Rose’s face boil and burn her skin, and she tightened the hand holding the phone and gripped it violently.
She had only just received the news that Dahlia Brown had returned home, however, that woman had already gotten together with him! How did she get his phone??
Rose impersonated not to hear who was talking, and asked, “Who are you?? Using my husband’s phone to call me, are you trying to steal my husband from me and become the mistress?”
“Rose Stewart, you’re the f*ck*ng mistress!! You’re the mistress who intervened between me and darling Ivan! If I hadn't left, how could your position be yours? I was fated to become Mrs. Smith!! You stole everything from me!!”
“So, it’s Miss Dahlia Brown!! You are such a shrew. No wonder my husband married me seamlessly after you left.” Rose was deliberately testing Ivan when she answered that call to discover whether he was on her side.
Just thinking about him betraying her, her heart would ache so much that she couldn’t breathe.
In fact, she already had a definite answer in her heart. Because Ivan’s phone was triple encrypted, no one could open it except himself!
Dahlia Brown wasn’t a mindless moron. She wouldn't say she called behind Ivan.
She acted gracefully and said, “Ivan, honey, you said you would divorce Rose as soon as I came back, and now that I’m back, are your words still valid?”
Soon, Ivan’s low voice reached Rose’s ears. “Of course!”
Rose’s breath tethered and her head throbbed, as she wasn’t really expecting Dahlia’s call to be performed in front of Ivan. However, she had underestimated. He had really hated her.
She bore the dull pain coming from her heart and added a couple of words: “Ivan, you can wed Dahlia if you want to, but at least divorce me first, can’t you? What do you mean by calling me on this phone? Aren’t you afraid that everyone will spit out that your b*tch will become a mistress?”
“Rose, how dare you!?” The angry roar rocked Rose’s ears, and Rose dropped to the ground and tossed her head onto her knees, trying to force tears not to fall out. But she didn’t know that it wasn’t Ivan who said that, but Dahlia, who could mimic his voice.
Dahlia kept the phone opened as she said: “Oh, honey Ivan, I haven’t seen you for three years. Did you miss me? I’ve been thinking about you every minute of every day. I didn’t mean to run away from the wedding. The opportunity to go abroad for further studies was very important to me. Don’t be angry with me, okay? You said, as long as I come back, you can forgive and love me again, right? Right??”
Rose endured the itch to hang up the phone in and waited for Ivan’s answer.
Ivan’s voice soon came, without the coldness he treated Rose with, but as warm as a chimney in a winter day.
“Dahlia, don’t mention the past again. I married Rose for succeeding the Smith family and never considered her as a wife.” Rose could predict his dispassionate answer, but her heart still ached for no reason.
She had liked Ivan for four years and had married him one year ago, as she wanted. There was no wedding, only a marriage certificate and not any wedding photo, as well as not seeing each other.
Dahlia was in a positive mood, so she smiled wickedly, hung off the phone and deleted the call record, redirected back to the jewelry contest entry page, and acted as if nothing had happened.
The man resting on the desk was gracious and delicate, with charming and sensuous qualities, and a glamorous aura all over his body.
Dahlia hugged Ivan’s left arm and squeezed it against her, showing intimacy. Seeing Iris, the secretary, who entered the door, and feeling Ivan’s arm that was struggling to break free, there was a clear ill will in her eyes.
Ivan’s striving arm didn’t move.
“Ivan darling…” murmured Dahlia “Can’t you divorce your woman? For me……”
Ivan glared at the woman hugging his arm, and pulled it from her embrace. His attitude immediately shifted from dull to positive and he smiled a half smile.
Ivan slackened his grasp on Dahlia’s arm, “Dahlia, after such a lengthy flight, you must be very fatigued. You can return home and rest, and I will treat you to a considerable lunch tonight and grant you a satisfactory welcome.”
Dahlia looked at Ivan, whose mood had drawn an abrupt change, withheld her mind’s dissatisfaction, and bowed her head properly. “It is still Ivan honey who cherishes me!! I’m so passionate to meet you tonight.”
Descending to the underground garage, Dahlia didn’t desire to bear anymore and lifted her foot and kicked on the wheel. “When did darling Ivan’s taste become so poor that he would like a secretary??! Isn’t she just a debutante with a title? How can she be worthy of him?”
She chewed her lip and stared at the escalator that led to the president’s office, her eyes were lightening and blackening.
“Honey Ivan, you can entirely be mine!”
***In her villa, Rose leaned by the floor-to-roof window, as her charming gem eyes overflowed with grief. She cried by her own as she called her friend: “Violet, I may have to break up. I am a very depressed.”
